Lightning Protection - more important than ever

“External lightning protection“ protects buildings against destruction by lightning.

Lightning Protection means more than just a Faraday’s Cage of air terminations, down conductors and an earthing system. Also the electromagnetic effects of lightning have to be taken into consideration and, if possible, a shielding of the building has to be installed. For a modern lightning protection, all available metal parts of the structure are therefore used for conducting the lightning currents to the earth. For steel-structure and reinforced-concrete buildings, the supports for the steel structure or the steel reinforcement are connected with the down conductors. Special terminals have been developed for connecting the steel reinforcements and fixed earthing terminals. Roof superstructures are no longer connected directly with the air termination. Air-termination rods or air-termination frameworks prevent a direct lightning strike.

As a module system, our Product Family allows a simple application. When installing the earthing system, the specific earth resistance of the ground has to be taken into consideration. This applies to all types of earth electrodes, even for foundation earth electrodes in accordance with DIN 18014. These are normally used as lightning protection earth electrodes, if corresponding terminal lugs and points are led out of the foundation. It has to be observed that terminal lugs or points are protected against corrosion. Conductor material with a plastic coating or high-alloyed stainless steel (V4A) comes up to this requirement. The installation of a lightning protection system has to be performed by a lightning protection expert or under his supervision.

An obligatory part of a lightning protection system is the lightning protection equipotential bonding, also called internal lightning protection. We offers you components and equipment for complete lightning protection systems in accordance with all valid standards.
